Malaysian mobile wallet operator opens scan-and-go shop

6. February 2018.

Following Amazon and Alibaba, a mobile wallet operator — Irispay — recently opened Malaysia’s first unmanned, self-service convenience store, according to SAYS.com, a Malaysia social news site. The store enables customers to purchase products from kiosks using their mobile apps.

Customers are required to download the Irispay app, fill in personal details, and scan the QR code on the products before making payment.

The stores currently sell snacks, beverages and condoms from China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan.
