Apparel retailer takes a Stance against the traditional checkout process

17. July 2018.

California-based apparel retailer Stance has partnered with Moltin, an API-first digital commerce platform, to offer customers the ability to self-checkout on their smartphone’s web browser, according to a press release.

Stance rolled out Moltin’s product this week at a Soho location in Manhattan.

When shopping in a Stance store, a customer visits to a short URL from their phone where they can scan the bar codes on product tags and check out using Apple Pay, Google Pay or a credit card, according to the release.

“We are really excited to be at the forefront of the retail experience by offering a truly hassle-free self-checkout experience in our stores,” Paul Zaengle, executive vice president of direct to consumer at Stance, said in the release. “People don’t want to wait in line, and they don’t want to download an app to avoid a line either. This solution combines the richness of a physical retail store visit with the convenience of e-commerce to give our guests the best experience possible.”

On the backend, Boston-based Moltin said its APIs are submitting product information to the application, creating the cart, adding products and processing the checkout. Moltin’s API backend allows the solution to integrate seamlessly with Stance’s existing infrastructure, including their KWI POS system and Stripe payment processor.
