Italian mobile P2P service finds path to retail outlets
Jiffy, a mobile person-to-person payments service from Italy's Veneto Banca and its subsidiary Banca Apulia, is now available for consumers to use in retail stores, according to a press release.
Jiffy's deployments has begun in Milan, Rome and Turin, enabling users to pay via app at over 150 locations, according to the release.
Users make a payments at the store by scanning the QR code created by the merchant at the time of purchase.
More specifically, the merchant enters the amount of the sale on its app and a QR code is generated in real-time, which the customer simply scans with his or her smartphone.
The customer can then view the details of the payment on the app and authorizes the transaction by fingerprint or PIN. Both the merchant and the customer receive notification in real-time of the outcome of the transaction and the funds are immediately credited on the merchant's current account.
Jiffy first debuted in December and now claims over 4.2 million users with 120 bank deployments.
