Verifone Retail Payments Conference Nov. 1-3: Mobile Payments Transform Retail Customer Experience To Be Discussed By Panel

Wednesday, November 1, kicks off the Verifone Retail Payments Conference in St. Pete Beach, Florida, an event for retail and hospitality industry participants. The agenda includes the latest payment industry trends, best practices via keynote addresses, panel discussions, and related presentations.

The retail experience is transforming, and customers are now in control of the relationship. They are connected, network frequently, and simply better informed. Customers want their store experience to revolve around their individual needs and few retailers would dispute that.

Yet, brick-and-mortar businesses are losing in sales each year for one simple reason: their store checkouts aren’t optimized for the ‘me-centric’ demands of the modern shopper. Among a variety of presentations, the following panel discussion covers Mobile Merchants and is described as follows:

Mobile pay systems are ubiquitous given the mature smartphone market in the U.S. and other developed economies. Adoption in the U.S. for the universal pays—Android, Apple, and Samsung—has been somewhat sluggish due to fragmented merchant POS enablement and the lack of added-value services.

Single merchant systems, rich in integrated features, such as mobile order and pay, loyalty, and targeted marketing, have gained much more traction. For Google they begin with the advantage of having a huge user base and a wide reach, but they will still need to build a merchant acceptance base plus offer some differentiating features in order to gain decent market share.

The panel will feature participants with retail payments backgrounds from Bed, Bath, & Beyond, US Postal Service, Carter’s Oshkosh B’gosh, and ParkHub. Raymond Pucci from Mercator Advisory Group will moderate the panel and present an overview of the current mobile payments landscape.
